WordPress 7.0 drops on April 9th, 2026. It’s the biggest release in years.
After a quiet 2025, the WordPress team has delivered something worth paying attention to. New collaboration tools, a modernised admin, AI infrastructure done properly, and a stack of editor improvements that make day-to-day content management noticeably better.
Let’s start with the headline feature.
Real-time collaboration
This is the one WordPress has been building towards for years. Multiple people can now edit the same page or post at the same time, with live cursor tracking and automatic syncing.
If you’ve used Google Docs or Office 365, you already know how this works. Two people open the same page, both make changes, and everything stays in sync. No more “I’ll wait until you’re done.” You just work together.
At launch, it supports two simultaneous editors. That’s enough for most content workflows, and the system is built to scale from there. If your connection drops mid-edit, offline mode kicks in and syncs your changes when you’re back online. For anyone working from a rural connection or a coffee shop with questionable wifi, that’s not a nice-to-have. It’s essential.
Inline notes
Alongside collaboration comes a proper commenting system built into the editor. You can leave notes on specific blocks or even highlight a sentence and attach a comment directly to it.
This replaces the old “workflow” of sending emails like ‘can you change the third paragraph’ and hoping the right paragraph gets changed. The conversation now lives where the content lives. Feedback is specific, trackable, and attached to exactly the right spot.
For teams managing content across multiple contributors, this is a genuine productivity upgrade.
